KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Respond to, assess and follow-up on referrals from law enforcement, partnering agencies and community members relating to potential individuals in need of behavioral health intervention or resources.
  • Accompany law enforcement on behavioral health calls to provide acute behavioral health crisis de-escalation, stabilization and risk assessment to residents in their home and in other sites outside the traditional clinical setting.
  • Evaluate the need for care coordination for individuals who received a Crisis Intervention Team response in the last 6 months and are not connected to care.
  • Act as a liaison with community agencies, service providers and mental health support systems.
  • Provide training and education to law enforcement and other first responders relating to behavioral health services, de-escalation, and crisis intervention.
  • Collaborate with other professionals to support individuals identified as high utilizers and communicate the plans to the appropriate personnel.
  • Maintain training, education and best practices by attending training, conferences and other opportunities for continuing education.
  • Perform outreach activities to members of the community who are affected by behavioral health challenges.
  • Address underlying personal and social vulnerabilities that may mitigate the likelihood of future crisis events.  
  • Display sensitivity to the cultural needs of the individual and/or family served and provide services from a person-centered approach.
  • Maintain consumer confidentiality. 
  • Maintains agency-required annual training including, but not limited to, client rights and grievances, safety training, infection control, and others as required by Ohio MHAS.
  • Maintain prompt and regular attendance. Be willing to work a flexible schedule to meet the needs of the person's served.
  • Adheres to all organizational and departmental policies, including compliance with all behavioral and ethical expectations.

Education, Certifications, and/or Experience

  • At least Bachelor's degree in Counseling, Psychology, Social Work, or related field required.
  • At least LSW or LPC required; independent licensure preferred.
  • Valid Ohio Driver's License
  • Two years' experience in clinical social work, co-responder experience, victim advocacy, or therapy, including working with moderate to severe and persistently mentally ill populations preferred.
  • Knowledge of practices of de-escalation, crisis intervention and management, case management, linking to services and follow up individuals in crisis.
  • Knowledge of risk and lethality assessment.
  • Knowledge of coordination of emergency services when clinically indicated or medically necessary.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • May require evening hours.  Travel within the TCN service region and some travel with individuals present throughout surrounding counties.  Strict confidentiality is required.  May be exposed to clients who are potentially angry or violent.  Some exposure to cleaning compounds and supplies.
